The Eastern: Book One: The Early Years
Jan 22, 2019 7:00 AM
hosted by Bill Silver. In the early 1800s, five families settle on the Eastern River in Pittston, Maine. Together, they build a strong and lasting neighborhood, an agricultural community based on New England values of cooperation and reciprocity. Both fiction and social history, The Eastern flows through the experiences and truths we share with those who have lived before us. Her latest book, an historical novel takes place in E. Pittston, on the road to Augusta. Members can read the book before her appearance. It is found on Amazon and probably in the Maine Coast Bookstore. This will be our first writer in memory to speak before the club----but it fits in the realm of local history and the author is local [Brunswick}.

Raised bed Gardens
May 14, 2019
"Steve graduated from the University of Maine in 2010, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Landscape Horticulture and a concentration in design. While in school he worked for the city of Augusta, Maine, installing and maintaining city-planted gardens and trees. In 2009, he interned at Longfellow's Greenhouses in Manchester, Me. After graduating college he worked for nearly six years as a vegetable research technician for Johnny's Selected Seeds. He was responsible for sourcing vegetable varieties of several crops from companies throughout the world, designing trials, and evaluating results based on performance to ultimately make informed suggestions on which varieties should be added to the annual 200+ page catalog. In his free time, you can find him working around his homestead, finishing off his small (16'x20') off-grid house, and establishing gardens and fruit tree plantings." |
